Everyone calls me MōMa, like the art museum. My husband and I decided to be called Oma and Opa when we were blessed with grandchildren. Somewhere along the way, the children changed it to MōMa and Pōpa. Since I was an artist, I thought it was a pretty sweet nickname.
My goal is to introduce new mediums combining both fine arts and crafts that are easy and economical to replicate in classrooms, groups or in your home. I draw inspiration from everywhere and put my own spin on it. I hope this page will help you think about some things that may work in the classroom and at home.
I work with kids of all ages and in groups as large as one hundred. Last year, students completed some awesome projects at my grandson’s school. The projects are designed around culture, literature, art history, and holidays. With the help parent volunteers and teachers, 630 children were able to create an art project with quality materials. f
I have been an artist as long as I can remember. I have worked in oils and acrylics, and watercolor. My home base started out in Laguna Beach with a gallery showing my own art and curated works of other local artists. I served on the board of First Thursdays Art Walk for several years.
After years of working in the gallery, my grandson came to live with us I and needed to focus on his needs and be more flexible. As he grew, I taught him how to paint and do all kinds of art projects. I made gallery visits with children and taught them to appreciate and identify all kinds of art.
I love seeing people learn to do something new that they did not think possible. Artists young and old learn true artist concepts and techniques. I have a strong knowledge of art history and like to teach a project based on a particular artist. Most all the schools have all but done away with art. I believe that art is a critical part of a human’s development. We learn to solve problems, think outside the box as well as explore the world around us for inspiration.
